Solutions for Enabling Private and Public Cloud Access

The ability for users to access data stored remotely without degradation in performance, administrative complexity, high costs, vendor lock-in, or loss of data coherence are all important concerns for organizations in the deployment of cloud storage, whether private or public.

By using Avere’s NAS Optimization architecture as the gateway to the cloud, the benefits to your organization are:

  • Remote data access performance is equivalent to that of local access
  • Elimination of expensive storage server silos in remote geographic locations
  • Centralization of data management and retention
  • Coherent access to data
  • Virtualized storage resources via global namespace
  • Standards-based, heterogeneous storage network support

Cloud Access
With Avere, you can extend the benefits of tiered NAS - performance, scalability, cost savings and ease of management - that you receive in your data center out to your remote locations.

How it Works

The Avere architecture allows you to keep copies of the most frequently accessed data at the edge, closest to the users, on a locally resident FXT Edge filer.  The FXT nodes communicate over your WAN links to Core filers within your data center (Figure 1) or to your cloud provider (Figure 2), with data promoted from the core to the edge based upon how often the data is requested by remote users.

As a result, application performance improves greatly because users aren’t subject to the latency involved in accessing all data across the WAN with every file operation. Moreover, data stays consistent because the FXT nodes communicate among themselves and with the data center or public cloud Core filers.

With Avere enabling your cloud access, the overhead of managing storage servers across disparate locations becomes a thing of the past. Each Avere FXT Edge filer can be configured and managed remotely, with new clients, FXT nodes, or Core filers added to the mix as needed – by you or your service provider - with no disruption to applications or downtime for users. Because data consistency scheduling is handled directly within the management console of the cluster, there are no costly separate mirroring applications to worry about either. Best of all, it works in all storage environments that support NFS, with no proprietary protocols or compression techniques to worry about.
