How does Avere do this?
Faster application performance is enabled by intelligently moving active data between traditional storage devices and Avere’s FXT appliances. Using the company's dynamic resource allocation algorithms, the Avere FXT identifies client demand for data and retains one or more copies of active files being read or written. This means that clients no longer have to traverse the network to retrieve these files, speeding up access by an order of magnitude. In addition, each appliance contains multiple types of storage media, from NVRAM to Flash to SAS drives. Data is automatically tiered between media types depending upon access patterns and application characteristics, making ongoing administrative decisions about when and where to use what type of media for optimal performance a thing of the past.
